What is CO2 … Lower Carbon footprint?
22 09 2008I thought it might be worth writing, just for the sake of free information, (very simply) what CO2 is and how it is formed.
And also, seeing as this is a blog dedicated to saving fuel by using hydrogen as well as fuel, with the knock on effect of lowering your carbon footprint, then it seems pretty relevant to me!
What is CO2?
CO2 is the chemical symbol for carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases are the gases present in the Earth’s atmosphere that stop heat escaping into space, keeping the planet warm enough for life. CO2 is probably the most significant of the greenhouse gases as it accounts for the largest proportion of the ‘trace gases’ in the atmosphere. It is thought that it’s been in the atmosphere for over 4 billion of the Earth’s 4.6 billion year geological history.
How is it created?
Atmospheric CO2 comes from a number of natural sources, mainly the decay of plants, volcanic eruptions and as a waste product of animal respiration.
It is removed from the atmosphere by dissolving in water (especially the surface of oceans) and through photosynthesis in plants. This is when plants use light energy, CO2, and H2O to make sugar.
The amount of CO2 taken out of the atmosphere is almost perfectly balanced with the amount put back into the atmosphere by respiration and decay. Small changes as a result of human activities can have a large impact on this delicate balance.
Why have CO2 levels increased over the last two hundred years?
Since the Industrial Revolution we have burnt fossil fuels to provide our light, heat and to run our cars. The trouble is that when we burn fossil fuels, we release CO2 into the atmosphere.
This has resulted in the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere increasing by more than 30%.
The best case scenario for the increase in CO2 emissions predicts that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere will reach double the level of before the Industrial Revolution, in 2100. The worst case scenario brings this forward to 2045.
What happens if there is too much carbon in the atmosphere?
If there is too much CO2 in the atmosphere it increases the “greenhouse effect”, trapping heat that would normally escape into the atmosphere. This causes the planet to heat up, which is believed to be the cause of climate change. Climate change is widely predicted to have a devastating impact upon the planet and people around the world.
What is your carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases we produce. It is measured in units of CO2.
The average person’s carbon footprint in the UK is 9,400 kg, that’s nearly nine and half tonnes!
What causes a tonne of CO2?
* Driving a car 3,000 miles
* Two return flights to Moscow
* Travelling by train from London to Edinburgh 28 times.
So what can I do to actively reduce my CO2 emissions?
I’m not talking about in your home or by farting less I’m talking about the CO2 your vehicle is pumping out
the entire time you’re driving it.
First of all you can read my post about reducing your fuel consumption by driving differently – ***here***
Then you can find out more about fitting a hydrogen generator into your vehicle which will ultimately make your engine combust the fuel it uses more completely, so there is almost no wasted fuel!
This means that you will get better gas mileage as your engine uses less fuel AND your vehicle will have lower emissions – meaning that you’re lowering your carbon footprint!
You can find more information about building your own hydrogen generator in this blog (just click on the archives to the right of this post) … or …
If you’re already convinced that hydrogen is the way forward and you want to start saving money and fuel today then follow the link below for more information!

Fuel Saving Tips
22 09 2008While trying different ways of obtaining lower gasoline usage, I discovered an interesting correlation. The tips that actually work to improve gasoline mileage also save you extra cash through not having to have repairs on your vehicle brought on by poor driving habits.
So unless you have £100’s spare to spend fixing your clapped out motor then if I were you I’d consider these simple tips that will save you fuel and money on more of a long term basis as well as short term fuel savings.
TIPS FOR SAVING YOUR HARD EARNED CASH AND FUEL
Fill gas during the coolest time of day. During these times, fuel is densest. Recognize that gas station pumps measure volumes of gas, not densities of fuel concentration. You pay according to the volume!
Secure that gas cap. Gasoline will evaporate from your vehicle’s gas tank and an under tightened cap will only facilitate this evaporation. So make sure to fully close that gas cap whenever you fuel up your vehicle.
Keep your engine tuned up. Fixing an automobile that is out of tune or has failed an emissions check can raise MPG by around 4 percent which is nothing to write home about. You should watch out for burnt spark plugs. A misfiring spark plug can reduce a vehicle’s gasoline performance by as much as 30 percent.
Ensure you have a clean air filter. Check it regularly. When the filter clogs up with debris, dust and bugs, it causes your engine to exert more effort and your vehicle becomes less fuel efficient. Replacing a clogged air filter could improve gasoline mileage by as much as ten percent. It is a good idea to make sure to have your auto’s air filter checked whenever you change your oil.
Your engine is just like your body. The better it breathes, the better it runs and uses less fuel. You wouldn’t run a marathon wrapped in a blanket while trying to breathe through a bath towel caked with dirt and bugs would you?
The newspapers at the moment are full of advice on how to get the maximum number of miles to the gallon and I’m afraid none of it is really relevant.
They say, for instance, that you should remove your roof rack, but the last people to use such a thing in England died in 1974. On their way to watch the latest Carry On film.
They also say you should remove the spare wheel and jack. Oh come on. By all means remove any soggy rolled up carpets you may have in the boot – that will make a difference – but dispensing with the spare is as daft as dispensing with your left leg. One day, you’re going to need it.
The simple fact of the matter is this; To save fuel, all you need to do is think ahead. Way, way ahead.
If you see the lights ahead are red, take your foot off the throttle immediately. If you wait and then use your brakes you are simply wasting the fuel you used to achieve a speed you didn’t need. Remember, a modern engine uses no fuel at all when it’s coasting in gear.
If your car has cruise control, ignore it. Cruise control is a blunt instrument for lazy people on the motorway. Rely on something more sensitive: your foot. Speaking of which, don’t drive in big shoes. They take away the sensitivity you need.
Think carefully about what electrical appliances you need. Even the quietest classical music takes a dibble of power from the engine. And that’s power which is costing you £1.18 a litre.
Never use your heated rear window unless you can’t see a thing. It’s the same story with your headlights. And don’t use the air conditioning either. Switch it off and in a normal family saloon, your fuel consumption will drop by as much as 12 per cent. That’s a big, big saving.
Next. Speed. SLOW it down. You don’t need to do 25 mph, but instead of doing 80 on the motorway, try 75. Or if you normally do 120mph, try 110.
56 mph, by the way, really is the optimum speed for good fuel consumption in most cars. Don’t try this in villages though or you will have to spend some time in a prison.
When going downhill, ease your throttle down and work with gravity to build up speed. Then, use that momentum to get you up the other side. Using the throttle going up hill is bad.
When leaving the lights, accelerate smartly. Not like a bat out of hell. But don’t dawdle. Get the car into top gear as quickly as is reasonable.
Finally, don’t short cut on any auto maintenance. Be serious about auto care. Your cars efficiency depends on it and your family’s safety does too.
So there you have it – some tried and tested ways of saving fuel by just driving more sensibly and thinking ahead!
Just think what you could save if you were to convert your vehicle to *burn water as well as fuel ...*
We’ve converted our van to run on hydrogen as well as fuel and are seeing a massive improvement in our gas mileage, so much so that we want to tell you about it!
Check out our other posts, *****here***** to see how much we’re saving!

Step by Step Water As Fuel Video Guide – Build HHO Generator Easily
9 09 2008Hey,
It’s been a while since I last posted as I’ve been driving around the South of France in my van on a month long surfing trip!
It was awesome and the fuel went a long way with my Hydrogen Fuel Cell fitted.
Anyway, I just thought I’d let you guys in on a little secret I’ve discovered.
On my website I’ve reviewed a few of what are regarded as the best DIY HHO guides on the market.
My TOP PICK is the STEP by STEP Video Guide – Half Water Half Gas – which is the easiest to follow guide I’ve EVER come across.
I’m NOT going to lecture you as to why you should buy it, but what I am going to do is tell you how you can get it for $4.95 – for a weeks trial – instead of the $67 it currently costs.
$4.95 for a $67 product?!
Insane I know!
If you like it and make a great HHO fuel cell from it then after the weeks trial has finished then you will be billed the remaining balance of $62.05.
However if you don’t get on with it or you don’t want to build a HHO fuel cell anymore then you can cancel the payment (within your weeks trial period) and you won’t have to pay anything else!
Infact you don’t even need a reason to cancel – you just can!
AND YOU GET TO KEEP – HALF WATER HALF GAS – FOR YOUR TROUBLE!
Obviously if you cancel the payment then you won’t get the FREE updates for 36 months and other bonuses along the way.
Basically I’ve put together a step by step guide on how to do it and how to get this AMAZING DISCOUNT so you can start using water as fuel today.
I usually only give this sort of stuff away to people signed up to my newsletter but it’s too good to miss – so I’m telling everyone!
If you aren’t sure if Half Water Half Gas is right for you then first of all READ MY REVIEW of it here:

FULL TANK -HHO FUEL- TEST COMPLETE! VERY HIGH MPG!
4 08 2008Hello world!
The full tank test on my Vauxhall Combo 1.7ltr Diesel Van is complete!
WOO HOO!
Unfortunately my video camera is playing up for some unknown reason and I can’t get the footage from it to make a video. However I will get round to fixing that and I will have the video of me breaking down and running out of fuel and my final distance reading. But for now I have a picture of my dials showing you my empty tank and the amount of miles I went on it.
So before I fitted my fuel cell I was getting around 380 miles to tank which is roughly 35mpg which in a van with a full load isn’t to bad. After fitting my fuel cell I did an initial test around town to get a glimpse of the improvement and I jumped up to 48MPG – an improvement of 13mpg or 143 per tank. That was tested by driving around town for a couple hours and the filling back up.
But I wanted a true reading of how much fuel I was actually saving.
So what I did was fill the entire tank with fuel until I could see it gurgling up and almost coming out – it took 50 litres of diesel. I then drove normally – without emptying my van of rubbish or changing anything – until my tank was completely empty, I mean bone dry! I had a fuel can with me when it started to get into the red so when I did break down I would be prepared. This took almost three weeks! I went on a couple motorway drives totaling around 150 miles and the rest was mainly around town driving to and from work etc.
What was the final reading?
I did 540.0 miles on ONE TANK OF FUEL.
540 miles of driving normally, up hills, down hills, stopping and starting at traffic lights etc. That’s a lot of driving!
So lets do the math:
1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 litres
50 litres / 4.54609188 =10.9984579 gallons per tank
540 miles per tank / 10.9984579 = 49.0977922 miles per gallon
49.1 miles per gallon! 49.1 MPG!
HOW GOOD IS THAT!
35mpg is what I used to get and now I get 49.1mpg!
It’s official, I couldn’t go any further on that tank of fuel and I couldn’t go any less – I BROKE DOWN, I COMPLETELY RAN OUT OF FUEL TO GET THAT READING.
I’m sure it’s not good for the engine to do that but never mind as I now get 49.1 mpg!
That’s a huge saving on both my money and my fuel – and it all came from one little container of water in my engine bay – amazing!
So how far is 540 miles? Lets use a practical example of how far that actually is:
It takes 533 miles to go from Paignton in the south west of England (where I live) to DUNDEE IN SCOTLAND
That means that I can go literally from one end of the country to another on ONE TANK OF FUEL!
(If you don’t know what Easyjet is then it’s a low price airline here in the UK)
I say literally because that is just the distance, this doesn’t take into account the probability of getting into lots and lots of traffic and probably going over the speed limit both of which will waste fuel. But it’s good just as an idea of how far 540 miles actually is!
So there you have it – 540 miles on one tank of fuel with my HHO fuel cell running. I am very happy with the results!
This post will be updated with a video once I get my camera sorted out – so keep watch!

What is HHO and How Does it Work?
27 07 2008

OK, so I keep showing you guys my videos about my HHO fuel cells which give me better gas mileage – but I haven’t actually explained what HHO is and how it works.
What is HHO?
HHO gas is a fuel additive that has been around for the best part of a century. During World War 2, Pilots flying low over water reported having much better fuel efficiency. Further Research showed that the HHO Gas Vapor created from the heat of the plane mixed with the fuel in the engines and resulted in a more controlled gas burn. What does this mean? Well put simply, these pilots were getting much better gas mileage from the addition of this HHO gas.
Unfortunately even though HHO gas (a.k.a. Brown’s Gas and OxyHydrogen) has been around for years it was never released to the public. Fortunately for us a few creative inventors raided a patent office and were able to get HHO Generator plans to share with the world.
Chemically, HHO Gas is simply free floating Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms. The baking soda which you add to the generator acts as a catalyst inside the HHO generator and helps to break apart the Water Molecule. This Gas is then piped into your engine through the air intake (diesel engine) and the vacuum lines (on a petrol engine), it then mixes with the fuel vapours in the engine increasing the octane rating of the fuel.
The way an engine normally works is you have little metal plugs called pistons moving rapidly up and down at (hopefully) a constant rate, this generates the power for the car. When a piston lowers it creates a small vacuum which sucks in fuel and oxygen (Intake). When it rises it compresses the fuel (Compression) and the spark plug ignites it (Power). An engine will ideally only fire the piston when it has completely reached the top of its tube, however, most engines fire early and don’t burn the fuel completely. This creates inefficiency, reduces your Gas mileage and creates pollution. (Exhaust) If your vehicle was 100% efficient you would have zero emissions and we wouldn’t be contributing as much to global warming like we do.
When the HHO Gas mixes with your gasoline it increases the Octane rating and the amount of compression required before the Gas ignites. The piston must then compress the fuel completely before it ignites, and the added Hydrogen and Oxygen allows the fuel to burn more completely reducing the amount of waste (emissions). So because there is less fuel being wasted as exhaust fumes you use less fuel. This also adds a bit more power to the engine, which increases its efficiency and improves your Miles per Gallon giving you better gas mileage.
How do we make the HHO?
So it’s all very well knowing what HHO does, but how do we make it. First of all we need a good guide to tell us what to do so we don’t do anything stupid and end up damaging our vehicles and wasting our time. Right so I’m guessing you’ve already gone out and got that?
NO ?!?
Well before I go any further let me just enforce how important it is to get it right as you don’t want to be fitting a hydrogen producing unit into the wrong bit of your engine (i.e. into the brake vacuum lines as that could be nasty). And you also don’t want to make something that is going to melt with the high temperatures in your engine, or possibly go bang if there is a flashback from the engine (where the gas ignites all the way back into your fuel cell).
So check out my website – WWW.ECOHHO.COM - where I tell you which guide I used to make my very successful cell and review a couple others. As at the end of the day you only need to make one of these cells for your vehicle so you may as well do it right.
Anyway, back to HHO production.
So what you have is a jar or specially made casing which must able to be
sealed completely. I used a large glass spaghetti jar and then made a stainless steel sleeve to protect it a bit more from the heat of the engine and any knocks it may get. The lid has a thick plastic thread on it so it seals completely. Glass is good to use as it has as in credibly high melting point and is a good insulator. You can make your own casing, a good plastic to use is Lexan (a type of polycarbonate) as it has good Impact and temperature resistance so it wont start to lose its shape like some acrylics will in the heat – it is quite expensive though so unless you really want to make your own casing for some crazy design you might be trying, then get a jar of some sort.
The jar you end up using should have a thick lid on it. The first one I made had a very flimsy lid and in the end it just cracked and wasn’t very good. The one I am currently using has a stainless steel lid which is incredibly strong and is just much better in general. The only thing to note when using a metal lid is that you will have to use gromits on the bolts that go through the lid as otherwise they will short eachother out through the lid and your generator wont work.
You fill this container with water and a catalyst (baking soda works well to make the water more reactive), mix it together and you have the electrolyte. This is the main “ingredient” in your fuel cell. You can use tap water or rain water but distilled water (de-ionised) is good to use as it is just pure water with no chlorine like in tap water or other pollution you might get in rain water. One litre of water expands to 1800 litres of gas so you get a lot of gas from the water you actually put in. You should change the water every few months and clean the fuel cell as it will get residue build up and it should go brown as well as you are making browns gas (HHO – named after the guy who discovered it).
Top the water up every few hundred miles or you could incorporate a water pump into your design but that is all explained in the guide you should get.
Next off then is you have stainless steel in your generator which acts as the conductor. You either have wire, plates or tubes (if you’re feeling adventurous) – all three use different principles and designs to make them work. 316L is the top grade stainless steel you should use as lower quality stainless steels will have a much shorter life. The main idea is that you run a 12volt DC charge (the same as the battery in your vehicle) through the conductors, one is postive and one is negative (anode, cathode). This opposing charges force the water molecules to split and bubble off as oxygen and hydrogen (HHO).
The gas then goes to your engine as described earlier on and you save fuel! Fantastic!
And before anyone asks - IS IT DANGEROUS?
Let me tell you now that it is NOT DANGEROUS as long as you follow the guide and do everything as you’re
supposed to. You WONT BLOW UP as the HHO that you produce in the fuel cell is extracted and then used
on demand, i.e. it is used up straight away in the engine, so there is no chance of it blowing up. Also nothing is pressurized, there are no pressurized containers filled with hydrogen fuel so you don’t have to worry about anything going off like a bomb. If we were to store the HHO and pressurize the container then there would be cause for concern as a spark of any sort would set it off – the way WE do it, there is NO CHANCE OF AN EXPLOSION. I hope that puts a few minds at rest for those who think hydrogen = danger – it does not.
So hopefully you now know a little bit more about what HHO is and how it works. If you think I’ve missed
something or you want to know something else then let me know and I’ll try and answer your question!
This system can be used on anything with an engine – so the skies the limit! You could use it on an energy generator in your home to reduce your fossil fuel usage to heat your house. Just an idea.
So if you have a guide already, then great, I hope my little article has helped you to understand a little bit more about HHO, if you don’t have one and you are really considering saving money and fuel (and the planet at the same time) then check out my website – WWW.ECOHHO.COM - as there are a lot of guides on
the internet all offering different things and without reading them you won’t know which one is the best! So we’ve taken the guess work out of choosing one by reviewing the best ones and coming to a justified conclusion.
So have a look WWW.ECOHHO.COM …
And start converting your vehicle to run on water!
Thanks for reading.
